SUDECC played a leading role in the drafting of the San Andrés Declaration, the Confederation Constitutional Charter and plan of action of the II Western Caribbean Summit in San Andrés, Colombia. This historical event included the formal delivery of the San Andrés Declaration and the founding charter of the Confederation of the Peoples of the Western Caribbean.
This new Confederation which brings together the Raizal, Miskito, Garifuna, creoles, Afro-Panamanian, and Afro–Costa Rican peoples along approximately 2,450 kilometer of coastline. It will promote regional integration, climate resilience, community recovery and reconstruction after a natural disaster, as well as connectivity and trade among these peoples.
