2020 Census and Afro-Latinos in the District of Columbia

This panel discussion aims to go over the importance of Afro-Latino identification and representation in the U.S. 2020 Census with emphasis on the District of Columbia.

Participants will hear remarks highlighting the significance of the Emancipation Day, Earth Day and celebrate the arrival of the Garifuna people, an Afro-Indigenous community from Central America embedded within the Latino population of DC.

This event takes place within the context of the “International Decade of Peoples of African Descent: Recognition, Justice and Development (2015 - 2024)”proclaimed by the United Nations in 2014.
